SAMSAM Resort, Koh Yao Noi

Yao-Noi Island, Thailand

Samsam Resort is a tropical boutique retreat designed by Palai Studio Co.,Ltd as project architects and Kaizentopia & Plang D Studio Co.,Ltd as landscape architects, an ideal getaway destination for those who seek for privacy and tranquility of the Phang Nga bay, Yao-Noi island, Phang Nga province, Thailand.

The journey to the resort offers a glimpse of the traditional island lifestyle. The main access is flanked by rubber plantations on a sloped hill with bamboo trails that create a unique sense of arrival when approaching the resort’s porte cohere.

Samsam resort resembles the structure of traditional southern Thai villages through the overall planning that features hotel arrival court, a reception pavillion, Villa 1, Villa 2 within some existing architecture and landscape elements. The main landscape concept is to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor space, integrating new built environment to blend in with the existing surroundings.

The arrival court plays a major role in being a transition space, a tranquil garden that connects and divides the public zone with the private areas. Pathways to residence pavilions offer guests an opportunity to enjoy well-preserved authentic botanicals and the splendid surrounding nature. In addition, locally sourced materials are used throughout the resort to reinforce the sense of place while minimizing maintenance issues.
