Light Cave Residence

Bangkok

Located in Bangkok’s vibrant Pattanakarn district, the Light Cave House redefines urban living by seamlessly integrating nature into a vertical space. This private three-story residence overcomes spatial limitations through thoughtful design, incorporating landscape architecture and natural elements into every corner to enhance the living experience. Central to this concept are three distinctive garden areas within the home:

Central Courtyard

At the very heart of the house lies the Central Courtyard—a verdant oasis that not only connects various rooms but also serves as the main access point to the second and third floors. This inner garden boasts a retractable roof, allowing sunlight and gentle breezes to filter through during the morning and evening hours. Dominating the space is a majestic 6-meter-tall Fiddle Leaf Fig tree (Ficus lyrata) whose towering presence bridges the different spaces levels, offering residents leafy vistas from the upper rooms and casting soothing shade over the seating area below.

Side Garden

Flanking the side of the house is a 2.50-meter-wide strip transformed into a welcoming Side Garden. Designed as an extension of the home’s hospitality, this area provides an alternative entrance, connecting the parking area directly to the living room and bypassing the main doorway. The garden features a sculpturally pruned tree that acts as an artistic focal point, enhancing the property’s aesthetic appeal. Embracing elements of Japanese garden design, the space combines pines with a variety of flowering plants to create a serene atmosphere. As one ascends the stepped walkway, plants are strategically placed to offer evolving perspectives, making each step a new visual experience. Meticulous attention to detail is evident in the stainless steel borders edging the walkway, eliminating visible joints and imparting a sleek, modern touch that echoes the interior’s design ethos.

Rock Garden

Throughout the residence, often-overlooked spaces—such as the entrances to bedrooms or niches beneath cabinetry—are reimagined as intimate Rock Gardens. Each stone is thoughtfully selected and artfully arranged to showcase a spectrum of textures, shapes, and patterns, introducing elements of natural artistry into the home’s interior.
